Non-Profit Organization Katadhin Friends Incorporated Gets Multi-Location Telecommunications System Upgrade From ZyXEL and Sierra Communications
Wednesday, August 17th, 2011ANAHEIM, CA – ZyXEL Communications, the world’s leading broadband access solutions provider, partnered with Sierra Communications to provide an advanced voice and data communication system for non-profit organization Katahdin Friends Incorporated (KFI) of Maine. Sierra Communications installed ZyXEL USG100 secure routers to power a data and Internet telephony system for KFI.
KFI helps disabled individuals throughout the state of Maine. The organization focuses on case management, community support, employment opportunities and home assistance. As the company grew over the past half century, there was a subsequent need to update its telecommunications system. KFI selected Sierra Communications, who has 20 years of experience deploying telecom and data solutions to assist with selecting and implementing the appropriate solutions.
Esther McLain, account executive at Sierra Communications, turned to ZyXEL Communications to assist with KFI’s communication system upgrade. Sierra Communications uses a ZyXEL ZyWALL USG100 device for its own organizational needs and experiences great results.
Sierra Communications installed a Panasonic telephone system to link the three sites of KFI. It also installed ZyXEL ZyWALL USG100 routers to connect the VoIP system. As a unified threat management system (UTM), the USG100 is the main gateway, channeling data and voice traffic between the three sites. By using the new equipment, KFI anticipates being able to save about $1,500 per year.
The ZyXEL routers are designed for small businesses and are built with sophisticated firewall and hybrid IPSec and SSL VPN features. This helps to provide KFI with a secure and encrypted phone and Internet communication system. The product also offers enhanced frontline defense with subscription-based anti-virus, content filtering, and intrusion detection and prevention. The built-in AppPatrol feature allows businesses to regulate applications, such as P2P and IMs, to potentially improve productivity. Additionally, the router includes bandwidth management, multiple WAN failover and load balancing. It also has 3G backup support, which make it a best-in-class device, offering value for a cash-conscious small organization.
