ZyXEL introduces cloud-enabled, high definition IP cameras for home surveillance and small business

Cloud features simplify setup and deliver instant access from PCs and mobile devices

Wednesday, January 4th, 2012

Anaheim, CA – ZyXEL Communications, a leading provider of secure broadband networking, Internet connectivity, home entertainment and routing products, today announced the launch of its CloudEnabled(TM) series of web cameras, the IPC3605N and IPC4605N. The first consumer-friendly cameras designed for the home and small office, ZyXEL’s IPC3605N and IPC4605N feature built-in, cloud-based technology that eliminates traditional installation processes and access difficulties inherent in previous generations of these devices. ZyXEL’s webcams provide accessibility to video feeds via any PC, iPhone™ or Android™ device, anywhere an Internet connection is available.

The IPC3605N and IPC4605N blend in with the décor of any home or office. Both incorporate the latest 802.11n wireless technology to enable uninterrupted surveillance in any condition. Clear audio monitoring and 720p video provide enhanced visual clarity over traditional 640×480 network cameras. In addition, the units offer h.264 video encoding to save bandwidth without compromising video quality. For best-in-class surveillance, even in low-light conditions, ZyXEL’s webcams deliver an array of Infrared LEDs that automatically illuminate dark areas, providing perfect vision up to 15 feet. The IPC4605N’s Pan-Tilt-Zoom functionality allows the user to quickly and easily pan the camera up to 340 degrees, and tilt it up to 100 degrees.

ZyXEL offers a free suite of apps for PCs and mobile devices running Apple’s iOS or Android for fast and easy remote access. Users simply register their cameras online and download the app, and can instantly access video feeds via a connected device. ZyXEL also provides camera management and sharing capabilities, so multiple video feeds can be securely shared with another member of the family, or so users can easily monitor their kids, pets or the elderly.

Quotes

“Previously, IP cameras demanded complicated configurations, requiring users to make significant changes to their router. These configurations included port forwarding to a specific port that was popular among developers, so the port was often already dedicated to another application. Or, the solutions relied on UPnP, which was often disabled by the service operators,” said Steven Joe, executive vice president of channel business for Americas at ZyXEL. “Our cameras solve these obstacles with cloud software that only requires the device to be registered. This enables users to easily access the camera via a downloaded application anywhere, anytime.”
